12 foods that clog arteries and threaten heart health

Clogged arteriesHealthy eating and avoiding prepared or processed foods are essential to maintaining a healthy heart. Many foods we consume can cause heart damage. Below is the relevant list, with the forbidden foods. In more detail:

Red meat: Studies have shown that people who eat red meat daily, such as beef and lamb, have high levels of TMAO (trimethylamine N-oxide), a chemical linked to heart disease. Other research has linked frequent consumption of red meat to an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.

- Canned vegetables and soups: They contain a lot of salt, which increases blood pressure, thus reducing the amount of oxygen that reaches the heart and increase the risk of heart attack. Most are also rich in preservatives and especially in sodium glutamate, which has been linked to a throbbing sensation.

- Frozen meals: Many of them are rich in sodium and preservatives. The daily salt intake should not exceed 2.000mg and many of these ready meals have more than half the amount you take in just one meal.

- Cold cuts: Salami, bacon, sausages, etc. have a lot of salt, which is used both for preservation and to enhance the taste. It is also rich in saturated fats that increase cholesterol levels, which creates atherosclerotic plaque that increases the risk of heart disease.

- Coffee creams: Contain partially hydrogenated oils, which are a source of trans fats that increase cholesterol levels. If you can not drink plain coffee, you prefer milk instead of creams.

- Dough products: Baked dough products, such as biscuits, tarts and ready-made pies, are rich in trans fats, which have been linked to heart disease. Many of them also contain a lot of sugar, which is detrimental to heart health.

- Ice cream: It often has high cholesterol levels. Half a cup of vanilla-flavored ice cream has more than four grams of saturated fat. This equates to more than 25% of the recommended daily allowance for adults.

- Fried: The process of frying food creates trans fats. Just 120 grams of fried chicken have cholesterol equal to that contained in 11 slices of bacon!

- Soft drinks: Research has shown that those who regularly consume soft drinks, even diet, which contain artificial sweeteners, are at greater risk of stroke and heart disease.

- Pasta souffle: It is rich in saturated fat and salt and gives a lot of calories that harm the heart. To mitigate the effects of consuming it, try to use skim milk and low-fat cheeses.

Liver: May be high in iron, but raises cholesterol levels. In addition, half the fat contained in a portion of liver is saturated.

- Cottage cheese: It may not be very salty, but that does not mean it does not contain sodium. Cottage cheese often has a lot of salt, which raises blood pressure, negating its benefits associated with its high calcium content.
