Opening of an exhibition of paintings by the artists Andreas Ioannidis and Andreas Charalambidou at the Cultural Center of Agia Napa "Giorgos Seferis".
The Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannettou, will celebrate on Thursday, August 08, 2024, at the Cultural Center of Ayia Napa "Giorgos Seferis", at 8:00 pm, the opening of paintings by the artists Andreas Ioannidis and Andreas Charalambidou.
Andreas Ioannidis comes from Famagusta and his artistic nickname is Artiste Antre. He has been painting for over twenty-eight years and has to his credit seventy solo and group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad as well as many awards and distinctions. He is an artist, who works within two different modes of expression – one line is the so-called cubists, where he creates geometric shapes with clean forms, broken up with soft strokes and layers of intense colors. The other line is based on psychology and psychotherapy, where after a systematic study of human psychology for fifteen years, we see works with rough abstract strokes and flashy colors reminiscent of abstract expressionism. Now he creates a new series based on surrealism where he does not get caught up in the detail, he relies on the free line aiming to disturb the inner world of the viewer by projecting his own inner world.
Andrea Charalambidou was born in London. He received a degree in Glassmaking and Blown Glass from Darmstadt, Germany in 1992. He worked as a glassmaker in a chemistry glassware manufacturing company in Germany. Upon her return to Cyprus she opened her own workshop where she worked, taught and presented her works in group and solo exhibitions.
She continued her education by attending various seminars and workshops of well-known artists abroad, enriching her knowledge with new techniques, with a vision of her development and evolution in the field of cast glass. She states that her works are inspired by emotions that emanate from cracks and channels, years rooted in the core of existence and consequently of human reality since its inception.
The need to express man's deepest spiritual connection with nature and himself, with things not visible, things intangible and untouchable, beyond realism, seems to be pervasive in them. It is a journey from the beginning of time, from the birth of our existence. In her most recent works, various and original techniques of glasswork and lighting of the sculptures harmoniously coexist. Her work is dedicated to the soul and the mind which are rendered through the purity and plasticity of glass.
To her credit, she has four individual exhibitions and various group exhibitions in Cyprus and abroad. Andrea Charalambidou is an artist whose work revolves around glass. Having experimented for years with various techniques, she has arrived at specific techniques, which give her the scope to create her own unique sculptures. Sand and fire are the main ingredients that give her infinite possibilities to create various textures, shapes, forms and curves in her works.
She is fascinated by the abstract, which we see reflected in her creations. Her goal is the continuous development and creation of unique sculptures. In her works, the need to express man's deepest spiritual connection with nature and his deepest self, with things not visible, things intangible and untouchable, beyond realism, seems pervasive.
The exhibition will remain open until September 30, 2024.
Opening hours: Monday – Friday 10:00am-3:00pm.
