The Municipality of Paralimni - Deryneia (Municipal District of Paralimni) invites you to the musical event "Sounds of the East" with Taxiarchis Georgoulis and Michalis Kouloumis. With them Andreas Smagas. On Sunday July 7, 2024 at the Traditional House of the Municipal Apartment of Paralimni.

Taxiarchis Georgoulis was born in Kalamata in 1993. He started playing music at the age of eight, playing the bouzouki. Later, he studied the land lute, under the guidance of Ilias Kappakos and Christos Zotos. He attended Byzantine music lessons with Ioannis Plemenos. In 2009 he started learning oud with Nikos Palaiologos. He participated in Labyrinth music workshop seminars with Yurdal Tokcan, Erkan Ogur, Omer Erdogdular, Evgenio Voulgari, Periklis Papapetropoulos, Sokratis Sinopoulos, Haris Lambrakis, Joseph Tawardos and Ross Daly. He lived for two years in Crete and worked at Ross Daly's Labyrinth music workshop. He collaborated with many important musicians in concerts and festivals in Greece and abroad. He founded the Beraber duet with Sofia Euclidou and is a key member of Giorgos Psaltis' Akousmata Anatolis group. He has won the second prize at the international oud festival of Tunisia and since 2018 he has been teaching oud at the Labyrinth Music Workshop.

Michalis Kouloumis, born in Cyprus, comes from a musical family. He started classical violin with Giorgos Zimpoulakis and studied physics at the University of Athens. He then turned to the traditional music of Greece and Turkey, obtaining a degree in traditional violin from the Filippos Nakas Conservatory. He attended classes and seminars with famous musicians such as Ross Daly and Kudsi Erguner. He has collaborated with artists such as Nana Mouschouri and Gabriel Yared and has performed in many countries. In 2013 he completed postgraduate studies at the Rotterdam Conservatoire with excellent results. He is a member of the "Lingua Franca Ensemble" and performs with the "Michal Kouloumis Trio". Since 2015, he has been teaching Violin at Codarts University of the Arts in the Netherlands. He recently released his first album, "Soil-Protes Yles". He lives and works between the Netherlands and Cyprus.

Andreas Smagas, born in 2008 in Paralimni, Cyprus, started playing various stringed instruments at a young age, but since 2013 he has focused on the oud. From 2014 until today he is a member of the Romiosiny Cultural Association, with which he started organized musical performances, while in the same year he joined the Mandolinata of the Municipality of Paralimni. In 2016, he began to teach the tropical music of the city at the Eastern Music Workshop, participating in its multi-member orchestra, and also at that time started wind lessons for a while in the Symphonic Band Armonia of the Municipality of Paralimni. In 2017, with the Romiosini Ensemble, they won the first prize in an international competition in Moscow, while they have appeared in various other musical events at home and abroad, as well as in various television shows in Cyprus and in other European countries. Since 2018 he has attended oud seminars as well as music lectures by distinguished artists (Yurdal Tokcan, Haig Yazdzian, Ziad Rajab, Markos Skoulios, Kyriakos Tapakis, Evgenios Voulgaris, Taxiarchis Georgoulis, Christodoros Mnasonos, Yannis Koutis, Andreas Andreou, Periklis Papapetropoulos, Vassilis Kostas, Charalambos Pantelis, Katerina Papadopoulou, Stefanos Dormparakis, Michalis Kouloumis, Nediaiko Nedialkov) with whom he collaborated in concerts. Since 2019, five of his short books on the subject of the oud have been published and nine of his articles on the traditional music of Cyprus and Greece have been published, while he has presented his work at cultural conferences and educational events. From 2020, with teachers Christodoros Mnasonos on the oud and George Papasolomontos on the trichord. He is a student of the Famagusta Music School.
