The “Modestos Pantelis” Cultural Foundation, in collaboration with the Fotis Pittas Museum and the EOKA Liberation Struggle Foundation 1955-59, on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the first hangings, are organizing a Scientific Tribute to the hanged heroes of EOKA with the general title “70 years since the gallows”.
The event will take place on Saturday, May 9, 2026, 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Sotiras Municipal District Indoor Amphitheater.
Dr. Petros Papapolyviou will speak about the hanged men, “Climbing the colonial scaffold: “Aspects of the history of the nine hanged men”,
Dr. Kyriakos Ioannou, “Literary reflections of the martyr's sacrifice of the hanged heroes of the EOKA” 1955-1959 and
Ekaterini Papaioannou, “The handwritten resistance before the scaffold: Analyzing the letters of the Heroes of the gallows”.
The event will be honored with the presence of the relatives of the nine hanged people.
