Twenty-eight sculptures, mainly made of Cypriot stone, of high artistic value, with four themes such as "Man and Nature", "Greek Mythology", "Man and Sea", "Man and History", will be created within the framework of the 10th International Sculpture Symposium of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, after selection by assignment, by eighteen talented artists from Iran, France, Italy, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Armenia and Cyprus.
The proceedings of the 10th Ayia Napa International Sculpture Symposium officially begin today, Tuesday, April 08, 2025, at the Sculpture Park and will last until May 30, 2025. This year's symposium, lasting approximately two months, is divided into three periods - twenty days each, an innovation that the Ayia Napa Municipality is implementing from this year.
In the first period, which starts from 07-26 April, four artists participate, who will create seven works, while in the second period, which starts from 26/04 – 15/5/2025, eight artists participate with thirteen works. In the third and final period, which starts from 11/05-30/05/2025, two artists participate with four works, while the Cypriot artists who participate will be able to create their works throughout the Symposium.
Throughout this period, the Park's laboratory space will serve as a reference point for the art of sculpture for almost two months, with the sculptures under construction gradually taking shape. Organized groups of citizens, students and foreign visitors will be able, after prior arrangement with the cultural department of the Municipality of Ayia Napa, to observe the artists, in laboratory conditions, as they create the works and at the same time the artists will answer any questions they may have.
In his statements, the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, welcomes the start of the Symposium, while expressing his confidence that the artists will once again create dazzling works, which will not only adorn the Sculpture Park but also public spaces of all the Municipal Districts of the Municipality of Ayia Napa.
In addition to enriching the Park and the outdoor spaces of our Municipality, he added, "we want to give the public the opportunity to experience firsthand the great art of Sculpture, through which a block of stone or marble can be transformed within a few days into a work of art."
"We will continue to organize the Sculpture Symposium because it is an important institution for our Municipality with international influence and is globally recognized as great sculptors from all over the world participate."
During the Symposium, various events will also be organized, including guided tours - excursions to various regions of our country so that the artists can get to know the history and culture of our island.
