We live in an unprecedented experience where the coronae has so far had 3,51 million confirmed cases and 247 thousand deaths worldwide. In Cyprus it has 872 confirmed cases so far and 20 deaths.

As President Nikos Anastasiadis correctly decided to declare our country a lockdown, he did not think about the students. Students who rent apartments at outrageous prices and private sector students who pay tuition fees. How can students who work neither themselves nor their parents because of the virus cope with these issues?

There are families who are going through very difficult days. Stress and anxiety prevail in every home in Cyprus. Students live in stressful conditions, in a month they were forced to pass assignments, intermediate exams, attend rehearsals and compromise with online courses. We accepted the online courses, although they do not offer us the whole essence of the course. But why be obliged to pay an amount that does not include my presence in the halls, laboratories and libraries?

We also pay for an apartment at an outrageous price that no one has taken care of to reduce rents, an apartment that we no longer even live in because tomorrow is uncertain, no one knows if the universities will reopen or not.

NO ONE THOUGHT ABOUT US, therefore we ask for the reduction of student rents immediately, although the workplaces are slowly opening, we know that the economy of our place will be slow to recover. As well as to reduce the tuition for students in private and to have an attitude of understanding towards all students !!

Thanks for understanding,
"Students of Cyprus"
