Kosmas Oikonomou talks about his poetry collections, folk poetry and traditional art

Ο Kosmas G. Economou was born in Famagusta in 1972. He worked for about a decade in the Tourism industry and since 2001 he has been working in the company Savvas Hatzigiorkis and Sons (Hatzigiorki Mills) as responsible for quality system management and Human Resources.

He has published poetry collections "Every verse ji 'a seed" in 2012 and "Where the carcass in the pen" in 2015. From 2017 and for six years (2017-2022) he is in charge of its publication Calendar of the Hatzigiorkis Mills Museum which includes his own couplets (wishes, love and opinion) in the Cypriot dialect as well as Cypriot proverbs.

He has distinguished himself in the folk poetry competitions in which he participated (2014-2016) while he is a lyricist of the song "The pilgrimage" which, composed and performed by Theodoulos Papageorgiou, won the 1st Prize in the Cypriot song composition competition of RIK in 2013.

From 2014, he began to record and edit publications related to folk poetry, having their full or partial editing.

He is the secretary of the cultural institution "Lefteri Oikonomou" as well as his "Pancyprian Group of Folk Poets and Friends of Poetry", of which it is one of the founding members.

In 2020 he was awarded by the evening High School of Kokkinochorion in the context of the annual event of Greek letters and the Three Hierarchs for his contribution to folk poetry.
