Today is Friday, February 20th, The memory of Agathon, Pope of Rome, is honored according to the calendar., Leo, Bishop of Catania, the miracle worker, Anianus, Bishop of Alexandria.
Today it does not celebrate a well-known name.
Saint Agathon was from Palermo, Sicily. and from an early age he was imbued with the virtues of piety. He was the 79th Pope of Rome.
He became Pope in 678 AD and took an active part in the Sixth Ecumenical Council, sending three representatives, the elders Theodore and Sergius, and the deacon John.
This Council met in the year 680 AD in Constantinople. to condemn the Monophysite heresy. Its decisions were also based on the heat with which Pope Agathon dealt with the issue, who anathemaed all those who had shown Monophysite views in the past, including his predecessor Pope Onuphrios I (625 – 638 AD). Thus, we owe one of the most effective arrows against the claim of papal infallibility to Agathon.
