Rumors want Facebook to change its name, as part of the new big goal "metaverse", a new online world of user communication through virtual and augmented reality.

In fact, it is possible that the head of the largest social media network, Mark Zuckerberg, will talk about this change at the annual "Connect" event of the company on October 28, without ruling out the relevant revelation to be made earlier.

The gossip came after a publication by the Verge (citing a source with direct knowledge of the subject) and which was reproduced by Reuters. For now, Facebook has said it does not comment on rumors.

According to the post, Zuckerberg aspires to make Facebook go down in history as more than just a social media (despite all the criticism he has received), as the main creator of metaverse.

"We will change so that people do not see us primarily as a social media company but as a metaverse company," he told the Verge in July.

Facebook's new corporate name remains a well-kept secret that few people know about, the Verge reports. The truth of the gossip remains to be proven.

As for metaverse, which is expected to be developed in the future anyway, it is a term coined by science fiction writer Neil Stephenson to describe a virtual world where people escape a dystopian world.
