Stefanos Tsitsipas celebrated qualifying for the quarterfinals of the Olympic Games, beating Sebastian Baez 2-0 sets (7-5, 6-1).
The Greek champion only met resistance in the first set from the Argentine in the Men's Round of 16 at the Olympic tournament.
In the quarterfinals, where he qualified for the first time in his career, he will face either Novak Djokovic who in turn eliminated Dominik Kepfer 7-5, 6-3.
Tsitsipas recorded 61% passing first serves, winning 89% of points (32/36) but 26% on the second (6/23), took advantage of 5 of 7 break opportunities and tallied 11 winners.
At the beginning of the match, the Greek tennis player faced a problem with his serve, which Baes took advantage of for a break and a 2-0 lead, only for Tsitsipas to react and equalize at 2-2.
With a new break, the Argentine made it 3-2 and reached 5-3. With his opponent down to 5-4, Baez served to end the first set, but with three straight games won he saw it fly to his opponent.
With the psychology changing sides after this development, Tsitsipas gave... a "show" in the second set. With two breaks and holding his serve three times, he led 5-0, with Baez simply reducing it to 5-1 before the Greek finished the qualification on his serve.
