The thermometer turns red and the predictions for the following temperatures are ominous. Skoda's air conditioning development manager gives some practical tips for maximizing the car's air conditioning performance.

Use the "Auto" function
In the case of automatic air conditioning, it is necessary to use the automatic mode (marked with Auto). This option optimizes the performance of the air conditioner through the sensors in the car. The optimum setting temperature in the summer months is around 22 degrees Celsius.

Properly adjust the airflow zones
In most new cars, depending on the level of equipment, the driver and passengers can choose different temperature levels. This is necessary and improves the atmosphere in the cabin if the car has large glass surfaces and receives heat from a certain side.

Because the selected temperature
In all cases, the temperature we choose in air conditioning systems is not the same as that received by the human body. Usually, in the summer months we feel colder in the air and in the winter warmer. The new Skoda models improve through automatic operation the feeling between selected and actual temperature, between 18 and 28 degrees Celsius.

How much is the consumption affected by air conditioning?
According to Skoda, modern air conditioning systems have nothing to do with the older ones, in terms of their effect on consumption. This is done through a series of sensors and so the air conditioning can work even with zero load.

Air conditioning and health
Nowadays, air conditioning systems use a minimum amount of coolant and so the effects on the environment are not negative. At the same time, the new filters take care of the air quality in the cabin, while for vulnerable groups with respiratory problems there are special products.

Recyclable or outdoor air?
Few people know that by selecting the automatic mode, the air recycling is activated at the same time. In this case the air is recycled through the filters and the quality of the atmosphere in the cabin is improved. If the air recirculation is selected manually and there is a risk of glazing of the windows then the air conditioning compressor is activated. In Skoda models, if the driver insists on recycling without air conditioning, he will have to press the recycle button twice to disengage the compressor.
