How to choose tires for your car

There are three different types of tires on the market for cars and drivers need to know specific things about choosing the right one.

Starting with the basics, drivers should know that when changing tires they should be the same as the dimension of the first tires installed in the vehicle.

Changing the tire dimension can increase the surface of the tire that is in contact with the ground and this has the effect of better response to the steering wheel, with more accurate handling when cornering. Also, a set of low profile tires with limited sides, although it may look better, generally results in harder "driving". It also affects braking, mechanical performance, fuel consumption and more.

The main thing to consider is the climatic conditions. Your tires have to deal with a wide variety of climatic conditions: rain, strong winds, mud, snow, ice and so on. All of this has an impact on their performance and you need to adjust your driving style to suit any type of weather.

The different types of tires

Summer tires

This tire is ideal for driving on dry ground, under these conditions there is more traction. On wet ground, the performance of this tire remains satisfactory.

They usually provide economy in consumption. They are consumer tires that are used all year round, but do not perform in snowy conditions.

Winter tire

In some countries, the use of winter tires is mandatory. In Greece, it is not mandatory.

However, it is advisable to use these tires from November to March, when the temperatures are extremely low and you live in an area that often snows.

When worn, tires are no longer effective in snow or on wet roads.

Four season tires

4-season tires allow you to use your car in good conditions, both in summer and winter. This tire combines winter and summer tires.

However, this tire is not as effective as a summer tire on dry ground or as a winter tire on snowy ground. But it remains effective in all conditions for the first years.
