Summer means festival. And festival means local products. Almost every region, municipality or community of our country has turned into an institution the organization of an annual Festival dedicated to its local product.
And if the 11th Strawberry Festival that took place on May 25, was completed with absolute success, we present to you the Festivals of local products that will be organized again this year by Sotira, Avgorou, Frenaros, Liopetri and Xylofagou.
12th Cultural Watermelon Cultural Festival, Frenaros
Continuing the long tradition, the Frenaros Community Council organizes this year the 12th Pancyprian Watermelon Festival at the Frenaros Community Stadium, on 13 July 2018, at 8:15 p.m.
The primary goal of the Festival is to promote watermelon cultivation. During the Festival, the visitor will taste sweet watermelon, watermelon ice cream as well as watermelon cocktail. With the participation of almost all the organized groups of our community, the visitor will have the opportunity to get acquainted with traditional professions, such as the preparation of the traditional Kokkinochoriati halloumi and the construction of traditional chairs. For our little friends there will be sections with face paintings (Face Paintings) on the theme of watermelon, children's constructions and a playground. It is also worth mentioning the charitable nature of the Festival as the participating organized ensembles have the opportunity to sell food, drinks, traditional products, constructions and other products. 6th Pancyprian Potato Festival, Avgorou
The 6th Pancyprian Festival dedicated to potatoes returns this year, with the Community of Avgoros inviting us again to try alternative and traditional recipes based on potatoes.
Besides, the potato of Kokkinochoria is famous all over Cyprus!
The Festival will take place on Saturday, July 14 in the yard of the XNUMXst Primary School of Avgoros.
Visitors will have the opportunity to try the local product of Avgoros but also to have fun in a traditional artistic program.
The detailed program of the celebration as well as more details will be announced.
According to the first information, the artistic program will be undertaken by Sasha Basta, Polina Christodoulou, Nasos and Giannis Sofilas.
1st Carrot Festival, Liopetri
This year, Liopetri will organize for the first time a Festival to promote the product that is mainly produced in the Community. The Festival will take place on 27 July 2018 at the Community Stadium of Barn Liopetri organized by the Community Council and there visitors will have the opportunity to try various preparations made with carrot. International Potato Festival, Xylofagou
Despite the fact that the Potato Festival is also organized in Avgorou, this year the Xylofagou Community decided to proceed with the holding of an International (as it will be called) Potato Festival in its Community. The Festival will take place (according to information) on 21-22 September 2018 at the Community Potato Packing House. It is noted that the Xylofagou Community organized a Potato Festival in 1992 and 1993.
3rd Kolokassi Tasting Night
The Municipality of Sotiras after the very successful last year's organization of the 42nd Pancyprian Festival of Kolokassi with Melina Aslanidou, perhaps the longest-lived festival in our country, this year is preparing for the organization of the 3rd Kolokassi Tasting Night, after the two events take place. The 3rd Kolokassi Tasting Night will take place unexpectedly at the Nissaki Ayia Thekla Beach Bar & Restaurant, according to the first information mid-September (date not yet set).
