Famagusta Region: The five Festivals of July that you should not miss

July is undoubtedly the month of Festivals. And especially after the previous two years, where the pandemic literally froze the cultural events, in 2022 it seems that the good old days are coming back and the well-known festivals that we all loved are coming back again to fill our outings. In detail below, Famagusta.News presents the most important festivals that take place in July in Sotira, Paralimni, Frenaros, Liopetri and Avgorou.

Thursday July 7, 2022:
9th Sotira Traditional Festival

The Culture Committee of Sotiras Municipality is organizing on July 7, 2022 the 9th Traditional Festival of Sotiras Municipality. An event that aims to highlight the traditional element of our place through various artistic events, dance, song, gastronomy and an exhibition of Cypriot professions. A Festival which attracts thousands of visitors every summer and has succeeded in becoming an institution in the cultural events of the province of Famagusta. The Festival will take place on Thursday, July 7 at 19:00 in the courtyard of the Holy Church of the Transfiguration of Sotiros, and will include a traditional feast with the popular traditional performer Vasiliki Hatziadamou, accompanied by accomplished musicians. The program will also include, plenty of food and drink, tasting of traditional dishes, presentation of chiattists by folk poets, exhibition of traditional professions, and demonstration of traditional dances by dance ensembles of the Municipality of Sotiras. The 9th Traditional Festival of the Municipality of Sotiras is under the auspices of the Secretary of the Council of Ministers, Mr. Theodosis Tsiola.

Friday, July 8, 2022:
13th Pan-Cypriot Frenarous Watermelon Cultural Festival

The Frenarous Community Council is again organizing this year the 13th Pan-Cypriot Watermelon Cultural Festival on Friday July 8 at 20:15 at the Frenarous Community Stadium. The Festival is under the auspices of the Deputy Minister of Tourism Savvas Perdio.

The artistic program includes: Loukas Giorkas, Annita Constantinou, Philippos Ktenas, Eleni Mavroudi, Nikoletta Livadioti, Stefanos Hatzigiorkas. The "Dimitris Petropoulos" Rebetikou Academy participates.

13-31 July 2022:
8th Protaras Summer Film Festival

The largest Summer Film Festival in Cyprus is coming to Protaras again this year and will be held from July 13 to 31, 2022 at Lefkola Square in Protaras, with 27 well-known films for young and old.

Friday, July 22, 2022:
2nd All-Cypriot Liopetriou Carrot Festival

The Pancypriot Carrot Festival returns on July 22 at the Achyrona Liopetriou Community Stadium. Visitors, within the framework of the festival, will have the opportunity to try various recipes made with the basic ingredient carrot by renowned chefs. Organized groups and associations will sell various carrot preparations such as sweet and jam, carrot cakes (individual and family), donuts with cream and carrot jam, croissants with carrot jam, doughnuts, juices, margarita, carrot cocktail, carrot soap. At the same time, there will be kiosks with skewers, kleftiko, hot dogs with coslaw salad, fried carrots with eggs and various drinks.

The evening will culminate with the music band ONIRAMA.

Entrance €5 / Free for students, soldiers and students

Saturday 30 July 2022:
8th Pancypriot Egg Potato Festival

The 8th Pancypriot Potato Festival will be organized again this year after the great success it achieved in recent years at Avgorou Community Stadium on Saturday 30 July 2022. Visitors will have the opportunity to taste a wide variety of new and traditional recipes based on the potato as well as other dishes.

Nikos Kourkoulis, Kelly Kelekidou and KINGS participate in the music program.

Entry €5 with free fries.
