It was held with great success last night (Friday, September 7) at the Restaurant of the Municipality of Sotiras "Island of Agia Thekla" on the beach of Agia Thekla in Sotira, the 3η Tasting Night. An event organized by the Municipality of Sotiras and the Producers' Organization with the aim of promoting the local product of Sotiras.
Both locals and foreign visitors had the opportunity to try more than ten new recipes, such as spring rolls, red velvet, curry croquettes and donuts, all made as a raw material, the zucchini.
The event was supported by the presence of distinguished chefs, such as Antonis Attounis, Antonis Nikolaou and Christos Christodoulou, Food Bloggers "The Fella Twins", confectioner Maria Potamou and volunteers from the Cooperative Company for the Sale of Agricultural Products Larnaca Rural Women Association.
As for the recipes, the guests could try for free the traditional recipes Kolokasi "Yahni", Kolokasi "Kappamas", as well as new alternative and gourmet recipes, such as Spring Rolls, Donuts, Curry Croquettes, Truffles, Red Velvet, Sou Chocolate and Chips, all made as raw material in Kolokasi.
During the event, videos were also shown with recipes that were prepared in the context of the promotion of Kolokasios Sotiras in Cyprus and abroad, as well as a booklet with the history and recipes of Kolokasios Sotiras.
It is pointed out that the Kolokassi Tasting Nights are organized every year with the Pancyprian Kolokassi Festival, while in September 2019 it is planned to organize the 43rdο Pancyprian Festival of Kolokasios Sotiras.
The event was sponsored by the Director of the President of the Office of the Republic, Petros Dimitriou, who during his greeting referred to the value of the local product of Sotira as well as the value of its registration as a Product with a Designation of Origin.
During his greeting, the Mayor Sotiras Georgios Takkas stated that "The Municipality of Sotiras started events promoting the product inside and outside the borders, with tasting evenings where distinguished and great chefs and chefs create alternative recipes, so that Kolokasi Sotiras becomes better known and is used as a raw material in more and more households".
It is worth noting that Kolokasi Sotiras was registered in 2016 in the European Union as the first product of Cyprus with a Certified Designation of Origin. In the same year he was named by the Gastronomos Awards as "Agricultural Product of the Year", while in 2017 he won the Cypriot Product of the Year Award at the Time Out Eating Awards 2017.
