We would like to inform you that the cultural group "Dimiourgein" is going to hold a traditional music and dance festival on the streets of the community of Avgorou on July 12, 2025 under the name "Lakkirtin Fest" for the third consecutive year. The program will start in the afternoon in the courtyards of restored houses of our community where traditional instruments, music and dances will be presented with the possibility of free participation of the public at the local stops.
The starting point will be at the Ethnographic Museum of Avgorou at 18:00 in the afternoon, where the Avgorou community choir will present a short program with traditional songs. From there, accompanied by musicians, we will travel the distance to the first stop, the courtyard of the Holy Church of Agios Georgios in the center of the community. There, the traditional choir "Lalia" will present a program inspired by the sounds of the wider Greek territory.
Then we will move with a musical procession to the second stop of the patinada, the courtyard of the restored Tsimpouri house. There, traditional musicians and dancers from the Aglantzia Folklore Group will present a program of Cypriot traditional dances with the free participation of those present. Then we will musically walk to the third stop in the village square where the Cultural Workshop “Para ti limni” will present a program of traditional dances of Macedonia.
At the end of the walk, we will musically head towards the Ethnographic Museum of Avgorou, where everything will be ready for a traditional feast that comes to highlight the living tradition that each one "keeps" alive within them. Circular dances - hands held tightly together will unite us once again in a musical and dance cycle of life.
More than 15 musicians from Cyprus and Greece and dance groups from Cyprus will participate in the entire event, offering a unique experience of revival and participatory experience. This event, which aims to become an institution, is imbued with elements of folk culture and hopes to bring old memories to the minds of the elderly and to guide the young in respecting and promoting our intangible cultural heritage.
It is noted that the organization of the festival is based on the selfless contribution of the organizers and one of the main goals of the organization is the financial support of vulnerable groups in our society. For this reason, all net proceeds will be allocated to cover the above needs.
All that is needed is a good mood, free expression of emotion, and a need to revive popular culture as an experience and not as a museum exhibit.
