The Municipality of Ayia Napa (Avgorou Municipality) and the cultural group "Dimiourgein" are pleased to announce the organization of the traditional music and dance festival "Lakkirtin Fest", which will take place for the third consecutive year on Saturday, July 12, 2025, on the streets of Avgorou Municipality.
The festival, inspired by our rich folk tradition, will begin in the afternoon and will evolve in the courtyards of restored houses of the Municipal District, where traditional instruments, music and dances will be presented with the possibility of free participation of the public at the local stations, transforming Avgorou into a living music and dance map.
The program will begin at 18:00, at the Avgorou Ethnographic Museum, with traditional songs by the Avgorou Community Choir. Afterwards, accompanied by musicians, attendees will head to the first stop on the route, the courtyard of the Church of Agios Georgios, where the traditional choir "Lalia" will present songs and chants from the wider Greek territory.
The transition follows, with a musical procession, to the second stop of the parade, the courtyard of the restored Tsimburis house, where the Aglantzia Folklore Group will present a program of traditional Cypriot dances, with active participation from the audience.
The walk will continue to the central square of the Avgorou Municipality, where the Cultural Workshop "Across the Lake" will take attendees on a journey to the rhythms of Macedonia with a program of traditional dances of the region.
The evening will culminate with the return to the Ethnographic Museum of Avgorou, where a traditional feast will be held, with circular dances aimed at highlighting the living tradition that each person "keeps" alive within them.
Over 15 musicians from Cyprus and Greece as well as dance groups will join forces in a unique experience of cultural revival and participation, bringing to the fore our intangible cultural heritage.
This organization, which aims to become an institution, is imbued with elements of folk culture and hopes to bring old memories to the minds of the elderly and guide the young in respecting and promoting our intangible cultural heritage.
It is noteworthy that it is made possible thanks to the selfless contribution of the contributors, with the main goal – beyond cultural promotion – of financially supporting vulnerable social groups. All net proceeds will be allocated towards this purpose.
Both the Municipality of Ayia Napa (Municipality of Avgorou) and the cultural group "Dimiourgein" invite everyone to become part of this celebration of culture, solidarity and collectivity. All that is needed is a good mood, free expression of emotion and the need to feel folk culture again as an experience and not as a museum exhibit.
