The events for the 60th anniversary of the sacrifice of the heroic battle of the Barn of Liopetri culminate this morning in Liopetri with parades.
The "new Hani of Gravia" in which, like today, 60 years ago, the lads of EOKA Andreas Karyos, Elias Papakyriakou, Fotis Pittas and Christos Samaras became beacons of light in the national liberation struggle, stands in Liopetri as a monument to the struggle that started a few meters further the first martyr Modestos Pantelis and was completed with the liberation of Cyprus from the British yoke.
Last night, bands from the surrounding communities held a candlelight vigil which ended at the Monumental Area, where a representation of the young men 's sacrifice was performed and an artistic program followed.
