Who Invented Christmas Lights 141 Years Ago! (VIDEO)

It was December 22, 1880. 141 years have passed since then.

Thomas Edison, the "father of innovation", creates the first set of Christmas lights.

Until then, those who had the money decorated their trees with candles. The dangers, of course, were obvious.

So at Christmas 1880, when a series of electric lights hung outside Edison's lab in Menlo Park, New Jersey, they could only catch the eyes of those passing by the area by train. However, it would be almost 40 years before Christmas lights became a tradition.

On Christmas Eve 1923, US President Calvin Coolidge turned on the 3.000 electric lights at the National Christmas Tree.

In 1882, Edison's friend and collaborator, Edward Johnson, made the first set of electric lights designed specifically to decorate a Christmas tree. He wired 80 red, white and blue bulbs and then wrapped them in this tree.
