During his last nine years studying in China, he donated a total of 5.000 milliliters of blood.

Ruslan Tulenov, 26, from Kazakhstan, is known as a "Panda-man" not only because of his rare blood type - rhesus negative - also known as the "blood type of everything", but also because he is a blood donor. During the last nine years he studied in China, he gave a total of 5.000 milliliters of blood, which is equivalent to the total amount of blood of a man.

It is estimated that about 0,3% of Chinese have this rare blood type. The rate is not high, but given the country's large population - about 4 million people are born with a rhesus negative.

Inspired by the classic Chinese story "Journey to the West" and the Chinese Kung Fu films, Tulenov became interested in Chinese culture as a child. In 2009 he went with great interest to study in the Chinese province of Hainan. He attended a two-year language program before enrolling in the city's university to study business administration. One day in 2009 he saw many students queuing in front of a small medical van. As soon as he was told that they were giving blood, he immediately decided to become a blood donor. Since then, this tactic has been part of his daily routine.

In 2015 he was admitted to Peking University of Science and Technology for a master's degree in business administration and engineering. Although he now lives in another city, Tulenov kept his old habits. In Beijing, he joined an organization of volunteers who have a rhesus negative blood type. Whenever a patient needs a transfusion, volunteers are notified immediately via WeChat so that the nearest one can provide assistance.

Last December, a pregnant woman in Langfang, a small town near Beijing, was in critical condition. As soon as he received the message, Tulenov hurried to the city. Thanks to his blood, the woman was saved and gave birth to two healthy twins.

To Tulenov's surprise, Chinese President Xi Jinping praised the young Kazakh man's selflessness and salvation in a speech at Nazarbayev University in Kazakhstan on September 7, 2013.

At Hainan University, Tulenov met Guerlain, a girl from Mongolia. The two fell in love, got married and in 2016 they had their daughter Sofia. As he says, his daughter is the embodiment of multinational culture as he can speak a little Chinese, English, Russian, Mongolian and Kazakh. Having completed his master's degree, Tulenov is now looking for a job in China. The country has become part of his life and he hopes to be able to live there.
