Yesterday was the birthday of Stelios Pisis, one of the most talented and renowned Cypriot creators. A very bright personality, a model man!

He composes and orchestrates his music using the movement of his eyes. Although he has been bedridden for years due to muscular dystrophy, with twenty-four hours of respiratory support, he continues to create and serve music, giving all of us a great life lesson!

His amazing musical work, but also his personal struggle, makes him an example of a man with inexhaustible will and strength of soul, both for young people and for our wider society.

Stelios was born on September 19, 1976 in Limassol and from the age of 5, he began to show his talent in music. He started playing the piano on his own, but at the same time that the doctors diagnosed him with Muscular Dystrophy. Due to the motor difficulties that arose, he began to deal with electronic musical instruments as he was no longer able to play the piano. When he was 10 years old, he could not walk and used a wheelchair. Then he started taking intensive music lessons with a teacher at home while at the same time he had discovered his ability in singing and composition. From 1990 he started writing music and songs. In 1994 he won the first prize in a pan-Cypriot songwriting competition with his song "It is a jewel of heaven", which he performed himself.

He has the richest biography…

He has collaborated with almost all artists and has been awarded many times for his contribution and fighting spirit both in Cyprus and abroad. He is the first Cypriot composer to be awarded by the European Organization PRS for Music, for his contribution to music and culture.

The documentary that caused incredible emotion…

"Stelios - Exceedance" by Kostas Kakogiannis and Pampos Kouzalis and refers to the man and musician Stelios Pisi, was screened with great success at the 4th Cypriot Short Film and Documentary Festival where he won the award for best music written by Stelio himself.

The film was released from the borders of Cyprus with first stop in Athens and the 1st International Documentary Festival "Emotion Pictures" (June 16-18, 2007, New Benaki Museum). It has been shown repeatedly by television stations in Cyprus, but also at Conferences and various events and schools - following a decision of the Ministry of Education. In 2008 he won the First Prize at the Drama Festival. It was also screened in Greece, Italy, Canada, India and Kenya, while within the framework of the institution "The Drama Festival travels" it traveled around the world.

Its creators decided to allocate the cash prize from its award to publish the documentary on DVD and distribute it free of charge to all schools in Cyprus and Greece.

The great composer had said in an interview: "I dream like all people. To the extent, however, that my condition allows. I certainly do not dream of going on a trip like other people. My dreams are mainly about my family and of course the music that I love so much. I have a very difficult illness. I draw strength from God. Judging by my life, I believe that you can not face such difficult situations alone, with human resources alone. My faith, my relationship with God helped me… ".

This year marks 25 years of music creation and his contribution to music and culture.

We wish him Happy Birthday !!! May God give him strength and may his heart always be full of love.
