The doodle of the famous Google search engine is today dedicated to a prominent mathematician and physicist. Max Bourne was a German mathematician and physicist of Jewish descent who contributed to the founding of quantum mechanics. In 1954 he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for his interpretation of Erwin Schrγdinger's wavefunction.

Bourne was one of 11 signatories to the Russell-Einstein Manifesto, which highlighted the dangers of using nuclear weapons. He was a personal friend of Einstein, with whom they disagreed about the power of quantum mechanics. A letter from Einstein to Bourne quotes the famous phrase "God does not roll dice."

Bourne was the grandfather of British-Australian singer Olivia Newton-John.
