Facebook Inc. apologized to its users for a two-hour shutdown on Friday, saying it was due to a faulty configuration in the second incident in a week of the tech giant's global system collapse.

The company confirmed that its platforms, Facebook Messenger and Workplace were affected by the latest downtime. "We sincerely apologize to anyone who has not been able to access our products in the last two hours," the company said.

"We have fixed the problem and everything should be back to normal now," he added.

On Monday, the social media giant talked about a flawed configuration for the nearly six-hour shutdown that prevented the company's 3,5 billion users from accessing its applications, WhatsApp, Instagram and Messenger. Monday's shutdown was the longest ever recorded by Downdetector, a specialist website that systematically monitors technical issues on social networking platforms.
