A 'smart' watch informs the woman as soon as she becomes pregnant

Thanks to the "deep" learning system that it uses and allows it to learn the personal characteristics of each different woman, the device can inform her not only when she became pregnant, but also when there is the best "window" of time to get pregnant

The traditional rapid pregnancy test, which detects a hormone in a woman's urine, may in the future have a competitor or even be unnecessary.

Scientists from Switzerland are developing an artificial intelligence system, which is integrated into a "smartwatch" and - as they claim - can inform a woman immediately when she becomes pregnant.

When pregnancy begins, invisible hormonal and other changes occur in a woman's body (in skin temperature, respiration rate, heart rate, etc.), which can be detected by the sensors of the "smart" device. An artificial intelligence algorithm then interprets the biological signals appropriately and informs the woman with the relevant message.

Thanks to the "deep" learning system that it uses and allows it to learn the personal characteristics of each different woman, the device can inform her not only when she became pregnant, but also when there is the best "window" of time to get pregnant.

The researchers, led by Mohamed Silaich of the University Hospital of Zurich, made the announcement at the annual conference of the American Society of Reproductive Medicine in San Antonio, Texas, according to the British Telegraph.

The "smart" Ava wristwatch is expected to cost around 220 euros and researchers plan to test it in real life by the end of 2017. Tests so far show that it can detect pregnancy about a week after conception, that is, just as quickly. with the fastest test available today.

"Instead of a woman waking up every morning trying to urinate on a strip to detect an increase in chorionic gonadotropin, she will simply be able to wear the wrist day and night," Silaich said. As he said, if the woman continues to wear the device in her hand and after she becomes pregnant, she can - with the appropriate improvement of the algorithm - receive warnings for a possible future problem, e.g. preeclampsia.
