The Cybercrime Sub-Directorate, Cyprus Police, warns the public that suspicious password hacking messages continue on Social Media and especially on Instagram.
In particular, various users receive a message from a person they know on Instagram and/or Messenger, who informs them that they will receive a code on their behalf and then reveal it to this person.
In essence, this code concerns the recipient's own account and not the sender of the message who is already using a compromised account of another unsuspecting victim. With this method, they gain the recipient's trust, with the result that their own account is also compromised.
The astute ones then use the hacked accounts to encourage their online friends to invest in various cryptocurrencies (Bitcoin, etc.).
These messages are malicious and aim for financial gain as well as gaining access to the recipient's own account.
With this method, the astute gain access to various user accounts, which they then use to trick other unsuspecting users.
In addition, recently there have been incidents where, in addition to the loss of access to Social Media accounts, a violation of devices - mobile phones - has also been observed.
The public is asked to be extremely careful with such messages and NOT to disclose codes received to any person.
It is recommended that you enable two-factor security settings for your online accounts.
In case of receiving a suspicious message / request, to communicate in a different way with the person from whom he received the message to confirm the request.
In the event that he performed any of the actions indicated to him, it is recommended to immediately check and change the password of the account.
