The Samsung 6G Forum is an important information opportunity on developments in 6G technology

Nicosia, 13 May 2022 - Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. announces the launch of the first Samsung 6G Forum (S6GF), which is held online.

The Forum, entitled "The Next Hyper-Connected Experience for All", is divided into two parts and broadcast live through Samsung's YouTube channel. Each part of the conference consists of lectures by experts from academia and industry, who specialize in next generation communication technologies, and the lectures will be followed by a panel discussion.

"We envision 6G delivering amazing experiences to people through the evolution of hyper-connectivity. That thought is the cornerstone of our vision for 6G, "said Sebastian Seung, President and Head of Samsung Research. "We believe that now is the right time to start preparing for 6G. The configuration of 6G will take many years, as it happened with the previous generations, while many discussions and collaborations will have to take place between the actors of the industry and the academic world ".

Part One - 6G Air Interface

The first part deals with the theme "6G Air Interface". The keynote address will be given by Jeffrey Andrews, Professor at the University of Texas at Austin, entitled "Deep Learning in the 6G Air Interface". The talk deals with how deep learning will be a key technology for the launch of 6G, contributing to the significant advancement of the air interface sector (communication link between two stations in mobile or wireless communication) on many levels.

After the keynote address, Charlie Zhang, Senior Vice President (SVP) at Samsung Research America, Takehiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President and CEO at NTT DOCOMO, and John Smee, Senior Vice President at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. will give in-depth speeches on topics that specialize.

Charlie Zhang, Senior Vice President of Samsung Research America, will present "Radio Technology Evolution for Beyond 5G and 6G". The presentation will be about 6G technologies that, although still at an early stage, are gradually shaping some directions that are gaining momentum in both academia and industry. Among these directions are the support of a new spectrum such as the upper middle band in the 7-24 GHz band and the Terahertz band (THz), new antenna technologies, the evolution of duplex technology and network topology, spectrum sharing , artificial intelligence (AI) as an inherent part of protocol design, etc.

Takehiro Nakamura, Senior Vice President of NTT DOCOMO, in his talk on "5G Evolution and 6G", emphasizes that research focused on technologies and services for the evolution of 5G and 6G is accelerating worldwide. John Smee, Senior Vice President of Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., in his talk on "Driving Air Interface Innovation Toward 6G", highlights advanced wireless research and development in multiple players that will bring subversive innovations and technological advancements. limits, enabling new and enhanced user experiences with 6G technology.

These presentations will be followed by a discussion on 6G RAN technology, led by Juho Lee, a collaborator of Samsung Research. Next, Sunghyun Choi, Executive Vice President (EVP) and Head of Communications Research Center at Samsung Research, will share with the public via demo video Samsung's progress in 6G research.

Secondly Part - Intelligent Network for 6G

The second part, entitled "Intelligent Network for 6G", begins with a keynote address by Tarik Taleb, Professor at the University of Oulu, Finland, on "6G Networking - The Journey Towards a Novel Vision of" Service of Services " . This talk discusses how artificial intelligence, virtualization of network functions, software-defined networking and Edge / Cloud computing have brought significant benefits in reducing costs and operating costs, development flexibility and faster time in the market. At the same time, it will refer to 6G as a player that is likely to bring new life to the field of mobile networking through the cloud.

The keynote address will be given by Seungjoo Maeng, Master of Samsung Electronics, Byonghyo Shim, Professor at Seoul National University, and Shi Jin, Professor at Southeast China University, with in-depth talks on specialized topics.

Seungjoo Maeng, Master of Samsung Electronics, in his talk on "Challenges in Applying AI / ML Technology to Improve Performance of Mobile Communication Systems", points out the challenges in applying AI and ML (Machine Learning) to improve the performance of wireless mobile systems and explains how these challenges could be addressed.

Professor Byonghyo Shim of Seoul National University, through his talk on "Deep Learning-Aided Mobile Detection and Beamforming for mmWave and THz Communications", will present the new example of controlling mmWave and THz communications based on DL (deep learning ). Shi Jin, a professor at Southeast University in China, will then deliver a talk entitled "Deep Learning-based CSI Feedback in Massive MIMO Systems", discussing the challenges and potential directions in research related to the application of channel status information ( channel state information) based on DL (deep learning) in future wireless communication systems.

The presentations will be followed by a group discussion on artificial network intelligence, moderated by Sunghyun Choi, EVP of Samsung Research.
