'Alarm' with security vulnerabilities: AMD admits problem - Correcting Intel

Intel is planning a "patch" on the "patch", while AMD also admitted that its processors are affected

A few days ago, the processor manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) had assured that its chips have "almost zero risk" from the two serious security vulnerabilities Meltdown and Specter.

Now she has to admit that her processors are affected by both versions of Specter and therefore need corrective action.

Shares of the stock market fell, according to Reuters, as investors hoped that AMD was less exposed than its big competitor Intel.

AMD has announced that it will start releasing security "patches" for the Ryzen and EPYC versions of its processors this week, while it will do so in the coming weeks for its older chips.

Intel has also acknowledged that software fixes just released for its own chips could cause computers with older Broadwell and Haswell processors to reboot more often than normal.

The company will probably have to release new "patches" (firmware updates) to correct the bugs that seem to exist in the first "patches"!

Intel has announced that it is already working with data center customers who are experiencing problems despite the first security upgrades.
