Christos Mastoras will face justice today, February 19, and is accused of two misdemeanors: driving under the influence of alcohol and dangerous driving.
The incident is about the evening of February 3, when the singer, according to the indictment, tried to escape from a traffic police checkpoint, while a breathalyzer test conducted shortly afterwards showed that he was well above the legal limit.
Christos Mastoras, for his part, claims that he was not trying to avoid the check but left in his car without realizing that a breathalyzer test was being conducted at that particular point. Subsequently, according to the authorities, a signal was given and the singer was stopped at the next block where a breathalyzer test was conducted.
In a post on social media, the singer expressed regret after his arrest, stating that he is "ready to correct his mistakes and become better."
"Alcohol is not a good advisor. A beautiful trip on an outing with my girl and her friends, full of laughter, dreams and good mood, but in the end it turned sour for us. The law is clear and I ignored it by getting behind the wheel. There are no excuses. The police did their job and after the latest events they cannot and should not under any circumstances make discounts on security measures. All professional, polite and above all people who care about justice that protects the responsible from the irresponsible.
"From the prosecutor to the judge, I felt, watching other cases, that everyone was making sure that justice was served. I am not a saint or infallible, but I am here to correct my mistakes and become better. Thank you so much to all the friends who sent love and messages," Christos Mastoras had written, he wrote characteristically.
It is also noted that the trial had been scheduled for February 3rd and then for the 6th of the same month, with the defendant submitting a request for the court to examine the police officer who stopped him at the first traffic police checkpoint for a breathalyzer test and for an expert opinion to be conducted on the video footage showing the course of his car.
Regarding the penalties facing Christos Mastoras, they provide for a minimum sentence of two months in prison, an administrative fine, a monetary penalty and the revocation of his diploma for six months.
