Dimitris Starovas spoke about the big change in his life after a serious stroke he suffered seven months ago.
In an interview on the "Protagonists" show, he said that he had been a victim of his passions, neglecting to take care of his health, despite the obvious signs such as arrhythmias and panic attacks.
“Except for the booze, every other stupid thing I did. I was sure I had something because I had arrhythmias, palpitations, daily panic attacks. I was saying what a motherfucker thinks. Everyone was telling me that," he said characteristically.
As he said below, with the help of his partner, Anna, and friends like Ierokles Michaelidis, he realized that he had to take care of his health. "Anna played the most important role, apart from the doctors. And Ierocles Michaelidis. He had arranged a doctor's appointment for me, but I never went," he admitted.
He then added that it is "the burden of his passions". "I grew up on feathers. Despite the poverty, my mother raised me alone. He worked three jobs, I didn't miss a thing. They were collecting signatures to kick us out at the time, because she was considered the "who**** with the illegitimate", but she didn't allow any of it to be passed on to me. I wasn't a bad kid, but a victim of my passions," he explained.
After the stroke, he paid special attention to his health, losing weight from 167 kilograms to 125 and improving his sleep. He said he used to feel like "a 90-year-old man", but now he sees things differently. “I was 167 kg and now I am 125. I want to get under 100. I am sleeping after decades without interruption. In retrospect I realize I was like a 90-year-old man,” he says.
He further added on how he handled this issue publicly: “When I came out of the hospital there were cameras. The doctors told me if I want to go out the back door, but I thought I have nothing to hide."
Finally, the artist expressed gratitude to his doctors, nursing staff and friends for their support.
