The interpretation of the lyrics of the song "Asteromata", as well as Claudia Papadopoulou's Pontic origin, are putting the Turks in jail, with the Public Radio and Television (TRT) stating that it will examine whether it refers to the "allegation of the Pontic Genocide".
According to pontosnews.gr, given that entries in the European Song Contest should not include political messages, Eurovision Türkiye states in a statement that if anything objectionable is identified, then Turkey's discomfort "will be taken to the highest level."
The announcement reads as follows:
“On January 30, Greece selected its representative for Eurovision 2025 and her song. Klavdia will represent Greece with the song “Asteromata”. There have been reports in the Greek press and on social media that the song is inspired by the alleged Pontic Genocide and refugees.
Furthermore, before the national final, Klavdia made the following statement on a show on the state broadcaster ERT: “My family is of Pontic origin, they are refugees and that is why I relate to the song. My grandmother told me her stories, she talked to me about her family, how they were exiled and went to the Soviet Union at that time. My family was born there, grew up there until a certain age and returned to Greece in 1991 and started a new life here.”
With all this, we contacted TRT and they informed us that the song will be analyzed by them and Turkey's discomfort will be conveyed to the highest level according to the allegations. We will await further developments and inform you."
