Rania Ioannidou passed away at the age of 89. Her funeral will take place on Monday, March 10 at 12 noon, at the Zografou Cemetery.
The actress was born in 1935 in Athens and studied at the Michalis Kounelakis Drama School of the Hellenic Conservatory. She began her career in 1959 with a small role in the film Wedding Adventures, alongside Dinos Iliopoulos. In 1961 she participated in the films Alice in the Navy and The Island of Temptations, followed by the productions Those Who Forgot God (1964) and Take My Tear (1965). During the same period, she also took her first steps in theater.
In 1971, she appeared in the films Manolios Χαναχτιπα and Grammos, while in 1973 she played alongside Kostas Voutsas in the film Twenty Women and Me. At the same time, she lent her voice to dubbed series on state television, such as Mannix, The Waltons and Maya the Bee. In 1977, she made her television debut in the ERT series The Village Photographer and later appeared in an episode of the series Once Upon a Time. During the 1980s and 1990s, she became known as a voice actress in popular animated series, including Little Lulu, Candy Candy, D'Artagnan and the Three Musketeers, Dennis the Terrible, The Smurfs and Sailor Moon. From 1985 to 1989, he participated in ten video films, either in leading or supporting roles.
In the 1990s, she made a guest appearance in the MEGA series, The Arbitrary and had brief roles in the series Amazon File and Honorable Gentlemen. In the 1991-1992 season, she played Mimi Denisi's secretary in the ET1 romantic series The End of Loneliness and participated in the police series The Visitor of the Fog. She then appeared in successful private television series, most notably her dual role in the Haris Roma and Anna Hadjisofia series The Men and the Den on ANT1. In the 1997-1998 season, she starred in the ET1 comedy series Money in Your Throat and began appearing in the Mega series Two Strangers. There, she played one of her best-known roles, Professor Markoras' indiscreet neighbor, Marianthi Mantouna, from 1997 to 1999.
In 2000, she starred in the daily series For a Place in the Sun, while in 2002 she made a guest appearance in the comedy series Mom and Son and in 2003 in Erieta Zaimi's Stables. The same year, she took on the most recognizable role of her career, that of the indiscreet priestess Marika in the popular ANT1 series Joy's Café. She appeared in the series from 2003 to 2006, playing a leading role in the first three seasons.
In 2005, she starred in the short film Let's Go Again, while in the 2008-2009 season she participated in the daily series of ANT1 Lola, along with Anta Livitsanou and Thanasis Efthymiadis. In 2012, she made a guest appearance in the series of Alexandros Rigas To amartima tis matros mou, while in 2013-2014 she played in the web drama series O proskinitis. In 2019, it was announced that she would not participate in the new series of episodes of Kafe tis Charas due to health problems. At the premiere of the new series, on December 31, 2019, it was revealed that her character had moved abroad.
