The Athens District Court Prosecutor's Office has initiated criminal proceedings for the offense of domestic bodily harm against singer Stathis Angelopoulos. The defendant was subsequently referred to the competent court of appeal. His ex-wife, Maria Koutsantoni, made it clear in her statements on a morning show that she does not want any contact with him, noting that they had an intense discussion, resulting in her calling the police.
The singer was taken to the prosecutor's office today, Tuesday, June 10, with him denying the allegations of domestic violence. The incident occurred, according to his statements, when he returned home after a trip to London and saw his ex-wife staying at his home, where their son is staying.
Maria Koutsantoni spoke on the show "To Proino" and explained in detail why she called the police after the tension that occurred between her and her ex-husband, while adding that from now on she does not want any relationship with him. Specifically, she stated: "The message I want to give to all women before they get married is to know who they are marrying. And it is never what it seems. Unfortunately. That's all I have to say. Sometimes the treasure becomes coal and everyone else pays for it. We had a small dispute. We resolved it. Everything was resolved. Good luck, all is well. I did not file a lawsuit, I do not file lawsuits. After all, I have a child with him, I avoid lawsuits. We found ourselves at a bad time and it's over."
Then, the singer's ex-wife admitted that the incident was a "wrong" moment: "What happened was all wrong. Maybe it got on his nerves, we had a couple of words. That's it. We just shouldn't ever meet again. That's it. Some people say have a child and keep in touch. I don't want any more contact. That's it. I say this and I'll say it again and I'll say it for the rest of my life. That's it. Away from me and wherever he is. I don't care at all. In general, everyone away from me. He has said a lot of bad things about me in the past. About money and various other imbalances, but unfortunately no one gives him any more and I would really like, because I have a child with him and he should respect that with him, to stop talking. I don't want any contact with anyone."
At another point, she explained that the singer did not use violence against her: "I called the police, but I called them for other reasons. There was a minor misunderstanding. There was no fight. And I told him to resolve this misunderstanding in front of the police. Okay, things got a little heated and that's it. I didn't sue him. I didn't testify against him. They took me to his house in the police car. They asked me if I wanted to press the panic button and I told them, 'No, guys, for God's sake. Why would I want that?'". We're not well. Okay, I know how to protect myself. It's not that tragic anymore. I just never want to see him in front of me again in my life. Not even as a poster. I'm sorry that I wasted these 6-7 years of my life on him. I miss the fact that some of my so-called friends come out and say whatever comes to their mind. No one knows what happened inside the house and they would do well to keep their mouths shut. Mr. Angelopoulos knew that I was living there, because I went with his permission. I don't do a squat like that on my own. If he wants to know what the real reason is, he should ask Mr. Angelopoulos, because Mr. Angelopoulos apologized to me."
Earlier, Stathis Angelopoulos' statements on "Happy Day" about the incident were aired, with him stating that his ex-wife stayed at his house, where their son lives, while emphasizing that he did not use force. "First of all, domestic violence, which I read on sites, is not true. Such a thing does not apply. At no time did it cross my mind to raise a hand or push. I went to my house and not to Mrs. Koutsantonis's, where I host my son and he, because I was away in London for about ten days, for professional obligations, hosted his mother. I went up to my house, had a conversation with Maria, which created tension and we had intense discussions. Nothing else has happened. She called the police and told me "you'll see what happens". We had a fight, because I was telling my ex-wife to leave my house. That's where the whole story started. I am not being prosecuted by Mrs. Koutsantoni, nor do I wish to sue her. Nothing has happened. That story is over at the department, but because the law on domestic violence has changed, I will remain at the department and go to court in the morning."
According to information from protothema.gr, although she did not file a complaint, the process is being initiated ex officio, which means the arrest of the singer, who was even going to be transferred to another police station, as the detention facilities at the Glyfada Police Station are under renovation. A friend of Stathis Angelopoulos, speaking to reporters, said that the singer returned from his trip and found his ex-wife living in the house that he rents for their son. He said that there was an argument between them, but not an incident of domestic violence, and in this regard, he said that was the reason why the woman did not file a complaint.
