Weeknd is officially the new Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations World Food Program (WFP).
The Canadian singer received the honorary award at a recent ceremony in Los Angeles: "The UN World Food Program is doing an urgent and important work to change and save lives on a daily basis and I feel excited to help people with global hunger and they need, "he said.
Weeknd has donated more than $ XNUMX million to many organizations and charities in the past. Most recently, it donated $ XNUMX million to support WFP relief efforts in Ethiopia.
The conflicts around Ethiopia deeply affect the artist, whose parents are Ethiopian immigrants to Canada. Weeknd reports in a press release: "Our partnership is a genuine extension of all our efforts and intentions to help those in need and end so much suffering."
Baron Segar, head of WFP, spoke about Weeknd joining the program, saying: "Whether he sings or talks about global hunger, Weeknd's voice is strong and inspiring, equivalent to his dedication to helping people around the world. It is our honor to be part of our mission. "It will undoubtedly inspire the next generation of humanists in the struggle to ensure that no man, woman or child sleeps hungry."
