Eleni Foureira spoke about the period when she came to Greece from Albania, explaining that many things impressed her, such as the different taste of bread. The singer mentioned that in Albania her mother used to make bread and when she first tried it from a bakery she couldn't imagine it.
In the interview she gave on the "Rainbow Mermaids" podcast, Eleni Foureira also talked about motherhood and the way it changed her, as well as the negative comments she may receive about her appearance and clothing after the birth of her son.
Initially, the singer said about the transition from Albania to Greece: "When I got into the elevator, it seemed awesome to me, because I had never seen it before. Some things seemed terrible to me and I will never forget it. Like the fact that the bread tasted different. We made our own bread there. My mom made it. So, store-bought bread or bread from a bakery was completely different, I had never eaten it before in my life. I was used to eating the same bread and when they gave us the vegetable butter, in addition to the cow's that we ate there, with the bread that was a little yellower, when I ate it I said 'What is this? Wow'. Years go by and I say 'Hey mom, where is that bakery where we used to eat bread?' and she tells me 'it's the same bread you've been eating for so many years'".
Then, she stated that since she was young, she had done various jobs, such as serving food or distributing leaflets, to help her family, noting that they got clothes and shoes from the local market or from the church.
Regarding the birth of her son, Hermes, Eleni Foureira said: "Motherhood has changed me. You become a child again. You see this innocence in your child's eyes and you say, 'Hey, why did we become like this?' It reminds you of a part of yourself that you have lost. Isn't it a shame that society is becoming like this? A great shame. We would like to keep the child inside us, but it is not possible. You change, you grow, you mature, you hurt, you cry, you rejoice. As a child you have not experienced any of this. But it's all good, it doesn't matter. I don't feel like I have to keep the child inside me. I just see my child and I have to teach him the best I can and make him the best person. He is an empty box that is being filled and you have to fill it with good elements. I will try my best."
And she added about her child: "Every time he says 'I love you, mom' I can't figure out how he says it or when he says it. He's also shy and doesn't say it to your face. I melt, I die."
Regarding the comments she received after the birth of her child regarding her image and clothing, she emphasized: "Even now they exist. It's bad to put women in a situation because that's what some people want. And the strange thing is that you hear these comments from women. Isn't it strange? It's their own fear. In general, to put women in a situation that "Oh, you're a mom, not this", "if you're big, not this". No, my love. No. Things have changed, accept it. We don't count on any of that anymore. We do what we like, we will appear as we want and as we feel. Is it possible now? I feel sexier since I became a mom."
Eleni Foureira also spoke about the weight she gained during her pregnancy, revealing that she had gained 20 pounds and was binge eating, because she was eating and saying it was okay.
Finally, she spoke about her relationship with Alberto Botia: "Alberto and I were long-distance for many years. This relationship was long-distance for five years. It's happening, but he came back just before I gave birth. He wanted it, he couldn't be far away. All relationships go through their ups and downs, from being too clingy, from being bored. It's normal. In the end, you choose complicity, you choose the other person. Never say never and I never say 'forever' because everything is in life. But you try, you've created something unique, a child. Not everything is always rosy."
