The first time the Natalie Portman learned of the dozens of sexual harassment and abuse scandals that flooded Hollywood, she thought she was lucky to have never encountered anything similar in her career so far, as she had stated at the time.
Later, however, she remembered "100 stories" in which she had been sexually harassed or discriminated against because she was a woman, which were completely unjustified but she herself had ignored for many years.
In a recent interview with Vulture, the famous actress spoke openly about her personal experiences, saying that sexual harassment has become so common for women that it has reached the point of being taken for granted as an "integral part of the job".
"I have experienced discrimination and harassment in almost everything I have done (in her career), in a way," Portman said. «I went from "I do not have a story" to "Oh, sit down, I have 100 stories". "And I think a lot of people are experiencing these flares, with things that we took for granted, as if it were part of the job."
In fact, a rather embarrassing incident was narrated, when she was invited to travel to the shooting location of a film of hers on the private plane of a producer. She had been told that with her on the plane she would be a member of the company, but when she arrived, it was just her and the producer, and a single bed.
"It does not make me feel comfortable," he told the producer at the time. "It simply came to our notice then. But it was not right at all, do you understand what I mean? "It was really illegal and abusive and something could have happened - I was terrified, you know?"
In the interview, Portman stressed that she is not sure that men realize how physically vulnerable women can feel. He even said that it is a common phenomenon on the movie set that there are very few women "apart from hair, make-up and wardrobe - the most stereotypical sections in which women participate".
Referring to other cases of discrimination she has experienced, Portman cited as an example cases where her point of view was completely ignored by her male colleagues, or she was treated as "exhausting". However, if a man had a similar view to what the actress had just said, he had no problem and everyone accepted it.
