Optimism based on realism and not ignorance is one of the greatest supplies you can give your child, so that he is dynamic and bravely faces the difficulties of life. So here are some things you can do as a parent to raise an optimistic child.
1. Teach the value of gratitude
People who are grateful for what they have have a more positive mindset and an optimistic outlook on life. To help the child feel grateful, you can make a "grateful jar", in which he will throw a note every night before going to bed. If your child prefers to paint, he / she can start an art notebook, in which he / she can depict what makes him / her feel grateful. You can read or browse his notes or drawings respectively once a week.
2. Resist whining
Try to limit whining, even to the smallest things in your daily life, especially when you are in front of the child. When you focus on negative thoughts, you are not helping yourself but you are intensifying the negative atmosphere. Children often imitate their parents, so if you are calm and focused on the positive, you are helping your child develop an optimistic outlook on life.
3. Encourage the child's independence
A child who from an early age is able to follow instructions and participate in simple household chores, has the opportunity to prove his worth and gradually develop his independence and boost his self-esteem. When the child has confidence in himself and his strengths, he faces life with greater courage and greater optimism.
4. Cultivate a positive way of thinking
Sometimes a bad grade can be enough to upset the child or make them think they are not capable. As a parent, you need to support your child when he or she feels bad and at the same time help him or her change his or her perspective. For example, you can remind him of the progress he has made in another lesson and explain to him that all people have difficulty with some things more. In fact, you can talk to him about something that you yourself had a hard time achieving. Thus, the child will begin to develop a more optimistic attitude.
