What is Emotional Intelligence?

Goleman defines emotional intelligence as "the ability to recognize, understand, and control one's emotions." It is also the ability to recognize and understand the feelings of the people around him and to be able to effectively handle both his own feelings and his interpersonal relationships. - Parents are often interested and concerned about their children's cognitive and academic skills while often overlooking their emotional development.

Research nevertheless shows that children with well-developed Emotional Intelligence do much better in both their school / academic performance and social interaction (John Gottman).

Children with developed emotional intelligence are more likely to be happier, more optimistic, and more social, and to be able to solve problems more effectively. They are also likely to have better school performance, be less impulsive, have better behavior and more friends.
