Vassilis Karras lived a life that looks like a movie script, and which ended early, going from poverty, to riches, and to a property whose value exceeds 10 million euros.

Vassilis Karras passed away shortly before the end of 2023, "stricken" by cancer, plunging the artistic world and hundreds of thousands of his fans into sadness.

Having lived as a child in poverty, he himself never forgot his past, remaining to the end deeply humble, humane, and feeling a sense of responsibility towards his audience, the people who loved and adored him.

A few months after his death, the will of Vassilis Karras came to light on Thursday, 30/05, with him leaving to his wife and daughter real estate, bank deposits and song copyrights, an estate exceeding 10 millions of euros.

Specifically, according to a report from the show "The Morning", Vassilis Karras left his wife and daughter a single-family house in the heart of Thessaloniki, the "Village of Peace", his estate in Kokkinohori Kavala, a seaside holiday home, a luxury apartment in Athens , bank deposits, but also song copyrights. According to the same information, 50% of Vassilis Karras' property is inherited by his wife and the remaining 50% by his daughter, while with regard to the copyrights of his songs, for the next 50 years they will belong to his wife, Christina.

Vassilis Karras: The transition from poverty to riches

Vassilis Karras, however, went through a difficult life, before becoming the "lord of the night", with him proudly carrying his experiences, which stigmatized him.

Speaking several years ago about his childhood, he explained that he used to help his mother, who was a cleaner, clean stairs.

"My parents were farmers and left Thessaloniki in 1963. My father became a builder and my mother a cleaner. I went to the bakery to help, I sold pretzels, lottery tickets, I was a "smudge" in a workshop", Vassilis Karras had mentioned, among other things, about the jobs he did as a child to support his family.

He, however, never gave up, and made his first appearance in singing at the age of 16, singing in a night club in Evosmos, Thessaloniki, while simultaneously working as a car mechanic.

In 1980 he released his first album, while his career began to take off in 1984, after his collaboration with Zafeiris Melas. Since then, Vassilis Karras has been giving his fans one hit after another, with the singer "signing" with his voice some of the most iconic pieces in the history of Greek folk song.
