An increased flow of patients was noted during the Easter holidays at the Accident and Emergency Departments (AED) of public hospitals, which were called upon to respond to many and various incidents, Charalambos Charilaou, Press Spokesperson for the State Health Services Organization (SHSO), told CNA when asked about the matter.
"In addition to the usual daily occurrences, we had increased incidents of minor injuries, either from collecting wood or from firecrackers, which required first aid and were discharged," he said.
He further explained that "during those days there was an increased flow of patients in the TAEP due to the fact that personal doctors were absent on leave and therefore the entire burden of emergency medical care fell on the shoulders of the TAEP doctors and nurses."
Mr. Charilaou also pointed out that in recent days "we had the injury and amputation of a 24-year-old from Larnaca, who was hospitalized at the Nicosia General Hospital, and we also had the death of a 22-year-old from a fall from a pile."
Asked whether the TAEP had seen any patients with symptoms due to polyphagia, he said that no cases of polyphagia have been observed in the TAEP this year.
"There have been some cases of gastroenteritis, which were due to the spoilage of the food they consumed, but it is nothing special," Mr. Charilaou finally said.
