PA.SY.NO points out that it "does not want the operation of hospitals to depend on overtime, and requests appropriate and sufficient staffing", stating its readiness to cooperate with the competent authorities to resolve the critical issues.
In a statement, she expresses her strong concern about the situation prevailing in the OKYpY and emphasizes the need to immediately investigate and resolve the serious problems that may be due to "deliberate actions or omissions," as she says.
As she states, one of the biggest issues that concerns her concerns the possible irregularities recorded in the Auditor General's report for 2022, with OKYpY "citing financial reasons every day and not hiring nursing staff despite the increased needs due to the operation of new units and departments."
In a statement, the union refers to the increase in nursing needs resulting from the opening of new departments and units, such as the 15-bed Intensive Care Unit (requiring 65 nurses), the Transplant Clinic, the Special Infections Unit, the Children's Emergency Department and the Pulmonary Clinic at Troodos Hospital. "We understand that further expansions will take place in the future, however, the financial viability of OKYpY cannot be an excuse for the lack of staffing in these departments," it indicates.
Furthermore, the union says that "nursing staff are forced to work overtime to cover the understaffing."
"The continuous expansion of nursing services without corresponding staffing concerns not only nurses, but also all staff. Proper staffing is critical for the smooth and efficient operation of hospitals and the provision of quality care to patients," the union emphasizes.
Finally, PASYNO declares its readiness to cooperate with the competent authorities to resolve the critical issues and calls on the Government and the administration of OKYpY to act immediately to strengthen the public health sector.
