A bill entitled "The Imaging Centers (Registration, Operation and Control) Law of 2025", which was prepared by the Ministry of Health, was approved by the Council of Ministers during its meeting today.

In his statements after the end of the session, the Minister of Health, Michalis Damianos, stated that the Ministry's goal is to ensure that imaging services (x-rays, CT and MRI scans, as well as nuclear medicine examinations) will be offered with quality and safety, for the benefit of patients and the public interest.

As he noted, the bill establishes standards and conditions for the licensing and operation of all Imaging Centers, including their building infrastructure, staffing and scientific supervision.

He added that the Ministry of Health, as the competent Authority, will be responsible for the supervision and control of these centers, while it is also planned to maintain a register of Imaging Care Centers, which will be published and accessible to the public for information purposes.

According to Mr. Damianos, each Center should have an operating manager, as well as a scientific director, to ensure that services are offered based on the prescribed standards and in the best interests of patients.

Provisions are also included for inspections, controls, imposition of penalties in cases of violations, as well as procedures for gradual compliance with the new legislation, in order to provide reasonable time for adaptation.

He also noted that the bill covers all providers of imaging services, whether they are integrated into the General Health System (GHS) or not.

The next step is to submit it to Parliament for discussion and voting, the Minister concluded.
