Today marks three years since the implementation of the GESS. A social conquest that was a demand of society for many decades and with the political will of the President of the Republic Mr. Nikos Anastasiadis became a reality. For three years now, GESS has been embraced by the citizens, it serves thousands of patients per day and the attention of all of us must be focused on its continuous improvement and upgrading, in dealing with any problems that occur without changing the philosophy of the system.
The GESS, during these three years, went through hardships and managed to survive, sending the message in all directions that the GESS came to stay in the lives of the citizens.
The numbers are indicative:
• 917,000 beneficiaries of GESS have been registered in a list of Personal Physicians,
• 777,000 beneficiaries visited their Personal Physicians,
• 756,000 beneficiaries visited the specialist doctors,
• 769,000 beneficiaries procured medicines,
• 159,000 beneficiaries received inpatient care services.
In the three years of life of GESS, participate:
• 711 Personal Physicians
1969 Specialist Doctors
• 159 Laboratories
• 1076 Other health professionals
• 687 Dentists
• 587 Pharmacies
• 58 Hospitals
The GESS not only withstood unprecedented conditions of pressure, such as that of the pandemic, but also proved that it can shield public health in the best and most efficient way.
At the same time, to ensure the viability of the Health System itself, actions and actions are underway by the Health Insurance Organization that will contribute to the normalization of the operation of the System and the treatment of abuses. These include, but are not limited to:
• Operation of on-call clinics by personal physicians for adults and children, which will operate in the afternoons and holidays.
• Integration of TAEP private hospitals that are contracted with GESS,
• Imposition of more severe penalties on illegal service providers and / or beneficiaries,
• Intensification of controls in collaboration with external consultants and the Pancyprian Medical Association,
• Inclusion in the GESS of additional innovative drugs, and
• Implementation of a comprehensive information program, of the beneficiaries of GESS, for the proper use of the System and the reduction of abuses.
Ladies and gentlemen,
As the Ministry of Health, we will ensure in every way the existence of the General Health System. GESS came to stay and belongs to the citizens of this country, its providers and beneficiaries. I appeal to everyone to protect the biggest reform that has taken place in our country since 1960 like the apple of an eye.
