He added that "the announcement of the bids has been pending for two years since there was a problem with the study for the replacement of the water supply pipeline. The two local authorities are anxiously awaiting the start of this project because promises and assurances have been given by the government and the competent state services, that the announcement of the bids will be made in the first half of 2019 ".
However, he continued "apparently the relevant milestone can not be observed, which is now postponed to September."
According to Mr. Karagiannis, "this road is extremely dangerous and this is transparent from the Christodoulas March that took place recently in the presence of the Minister of Interior. "The road has landslides that can no longer be repaired, there are no sidewalks, students walk in the fields to go to school, while the bicycle can not be used at all to move anyone, local or tourist."
He also said that "the Municipality of Deryneia is ringing the alarm bell to the competent authorities for the urgent upgrade of the road, so that we do not mourn other victims, since in recent years there have been two deaths from accidents."
Asked about the replacement of the water supply pipeline, Mr. Karagiannis replied that "the issue has been settled and the cost of changing the main pipeline will be included in the total cost of the project, which will be borne by the Municipalities of the Free Province of Famagusta, each at its own cost, that is, one-fifth. He also noted that "the most serious problem that exists for the upgrade of the road Deryneia - Sotiras are the expropriations that must be done immediately in order to start the project. It is the only road that connects the coastal area with the hinterland, ie Agia Thekla, Sotira, Deryneia and Famagusta, while with the start of the tourist season there will be a big problem in the movement of visitors ".
He explained that "tourists visit Deryneia from Ayia Napa via Sotira and return back through Paralimni. "It is unacceptable that there is a road that forbids thousands of visitors, foreigners and locals alike, to use other means of transport such as bicycles," he said. that exist on the street ".
