More than 6,5 tons of meat, the largest amount to date, with a stamp from Poland and Denmark coming from the "south" were confiscated in a truck stopped by the "police" of Famagusta at a roundabout in Acheritou.

According to the Turkish Press, this quantity is estimated to be worth 660.000 TL (132.000 euros) in the market. In addition, the cost of "customs" is estimated at 495.000 TL (99.000 euros). Thus, the "court" awarded the amount of 1.295.485 TL (259.000 euros) to the driver of the truck, Aisin Eskimuchtaroglou, who illegally transported the 6,5 tons, while the "police" is looking for the owner of the company to which the truck belongs. The driver of the truck was detained for two days.

The operation of the "crime department" of the "police directorate" of Famagusta took place yesterday morning following information they had received, it is noted in the Turkish press. The truck had transported tons of meat illegally from the "south", as reported, while the destination was not known. This is beef in packages or steaks.

The Turkish press points out that this is the largest amount of meat that has been confiscated and the largest fine that has been imposed so far for smuggling.

It should be noted that the smuggling of meat from the free to the occupied areas is a common phenomenon and concerns the Turkish press often.
