An incredible and at the same time reprehensible incident occurred on Saturday in Dasaki tis Achnas when unknown persons removed and covered the bust of the hero Lambros Vardakis who fell fighting during the Turkish invasion of 1974 and whose bones were located, identified and buried in November 2015 in the cemetery in Dasaki Achnas. In fact, today, Sunday, July 28, his memorial service would take place.
The Mayor of Ayia Napa condemned in the most categorical way, we condemn the heinous act of desecrating the bust.
The Municipality of Ayia Napa contacted the Bases Police and is expected to carry out the full restoration of the monument, assuming the entire costs.
