Dasaki Achnas: Visit of Averof Neophytou at the 2nd Pan-Cypriot Refugee Meeting

Our goal is the reunification of our country and the continuation of the current situation is a slow death, said today the President of DISY and candidate for the Presidency of the Republic Averof Neophytou, adding that given the provocation of Turkey with each passing day things will improve to worst.

In statements after visiting the 2nd Pan-Cypriot Refugee Meeting which takes place in the Central Square in Dasaki of Achnas, Mr. Neophytou expressed emotion because of the initiative of the Community Leader Nikos Vassilas, saying that "we do not bring to our memories only what we experienced, but it gives the opportunity for our children to experience the history of our country, what refugee meant and means, how hundreds of thousands of refugees lived in 1974".

He added that "this particular initiative deserves praise. I am sure that this will have the support of DISY and I believe that the state will also support it so that this initiative is on a permanent basis".

Mr. Neofytou also mentioned that "being in Dasaki tis Achna and next to our occupied land, the goal is to reunite our homeland. The continuation of the current situation is a slow death, the status quo is not the status quo anymore, with each passing day things will get worse, given Turkey's provocation."

However, he continued, "we have an obligation to find ways to bend this Turkish intransigence. Our country is too small to be divided, and in order to have a bright future for us and our children, we must build it into a reunited homeland."

For his part, the President of the Achnas Forest Community Council, Nikos Vasilas, thanked Mr. Neophytou for his visit to the 2nd Pan-Cypriot Refugee Meeting. He said that they explain to children "what happened in 1974 and how the approximately 80 refugees who ended up in Dasaki tis Achna lived". He said that Mr. Neophytou "promised us that he will try with all his might to continue this institution and if we succeed it will become permanent".
