A few words about the program:
A program for children about books and the library was created by Angeliki Chalkiopoulou in collaboration with the Cyprus Association of Librarians and Information Scientists (KEVEP), within the framework of the Cultural Decentralization Program. The program, entitled “Alice and Philip Travel to the Library,” has three goals:
A) Informing children about the institution of the Library and its operation in every place. Beyond information, an effort is made to revive the institution in its modern form even in remote communities with the ultimate goal of becoming a magnet for children and young people and an alternative proposal for education, entertainment and social cohesion.
B) Approaching children and adults through experiential workshops and seminars with the aim of connecting them with the book and its educational value. Selected literary books guide, inspire and entertain children and adults in an intelligent and creative way, offering: Mental empowerment, Critical and Creative thinking, Empathy, Education, Cultivation of Emotional Intelligence, Cooperation, Knowledge of Human Rights and Humanitarian Values.
C) Information on new bibliography of children's literature and training for its use as an educational tool of inspiration, both in the classroom and in the family environment. At the same time, acquaintance with the science of Library Science and the Librarians themselves who can help inform and connect Community Libraries with School Libraries. An "Escape Book Project" opens to children the door to free knowledge and the magic of the multiple interpretations of the word "book".
