At an event organized by the Achna Cultural Association "Kyriakos Hatziioannou" entitled "From the pleasant rose garden of Kyriakos Hatziioannou", the great educator, writer, researcher and folklorist Kyriakos Hatziioannou was honored.
The Honorary Professor of Linguistics at the University of Cyprus, Mrs. Anna Panayiotou, spoke on behalf of the honoree, and greetings were delivered by the Mayor of Ayia Napa, Mr. Christos Zannetou, and the Deputy Mayor of the Achna Municipality - Ayia Napa Municipality, Mr. Nikos Vasilas.
In his greeting, Mr. Zannetou referred to his life and writings, which he described as remarkable but also gigantic, the value of his work as invaluable and his influence on new generations as decisive.
As a state, he added, "we have a duty to promote, support and preserve projects that will guide us, and heritage is an important legacy for the promotion of the culture of our country, education, history and our national survival."
The Deputy Mayor of the Municipal District of Achna - Municipality of Ayia Napa, Mr. Nikos Vasilas, in his greeting, said that Achna, its residents and he personally feel honored and proud that Kyriakos Hadjiioannou comes from Achna and that whatever can be said about the man and educator, writer, researcher and folklorist is very little and he warmly thanked the Achna Cultural Association "Kyriakos Hadjiioannou" for the event it organized in his honor.
The archive of the late Kyriakos Hadjiioannou was then handed over to the Achna Cultural Association "Kyriakos Hadjiioannou" by his goddaughter Elena Yianni Hadjiioannou, and was immediately followed by an artistic program by the Municipal Choir of Avgorou - Municipality of Ayia Napa under the direction of Maria Theodorou, in which the well-known Cypriot performer Stelios Chiotis also participated.
