In a statement today, OPOK added that the proposed development poses a risk of serious accidents, as the already existing unit now located in Israel has recorded incidents of large numbers of crocodiles escaping, endangering human lives.
In addition, he notes that "the crocodile is a foreign species to Cyprus and given that the proposed number of animals that the park will maintain will be large, we consider that it is actually a crocodile farm", to add that "a female crocodile breeds around 80 eggs a year ".
"The water resources required for the operation of the crocodile theme park are prohibitive, especially during this year when there is intense water shortage. The park requires the construction of a number of huge reservoirs - lakes and facilities. In addition to the large quantities of water required for the operation of the project, there is a high probability of the development of salmonella and other harmful microorganisms for human health in this water ", concludes the Federation of Environmental Organizations of Cyprus.
