The Israeli company that is interested in investing in free Famagusta wants to create a multi-theme park of Nile crocodiles and other exotic animals and birds, ie a state-of-the-art zoo of 30 thousand square meters, in the area of Achna.
This is the company PNA Krokodailpark whose general manager Floros Tsagaris and executive director Costas Konstantinou spoke exclusively, wanting, as they stressed, to responsibly inform the inhabitants of the Achna Forest and the Cypriot public in general to if and when the Achnas Community Council accepts their proposal.
Mr. Tsagaris and Mr. Konstantinou clarified that the impression has been wrongly given that the purpose of the investment is the creation of a farm for breeding Nile crocodiles in the area of Achna and the export of meat and skin, through the parallel creation of a slaughterhouse.
Any bona fide journalist or other interested party pointed out, they can see for themselves that based on the license and the agreements made with the State of Cyprus, the eggs that the Nile crocodiles will lay, every March-April that the females will conceive, will be destroyed in the presence of competent government departments. The hatching of some eggs will be allowed only for the purpose of replenishing losses, ie the death of crocodiles, so that their number remains constant.
Representatives of the PNA Krokodailpark company also stressed that in the area of Montpellier in France, where a similar park of crocodiles and other exotic animals and birds has been operating for many years, such as the one they aspire to create in the Achna region, there have never been any safety problems or anything. other.
Where will the park take place
The two representatives of PNA Krokodailpark also denied rumors that if the Achna Community Council finally approves its request, then the investment will be made in the area of the Achna fence.
It was revealed for the first time that the land market has been trampled on a location between the occupied Achna and the Monastery of Agios Kendeas (along the old Larnaca-Famagusta road), which is now deserted and which is several kilometers from both Dasaki Achnas and of Avgorou as well as from the dam of Achna.
The two Cypriot shareholders and representatives of the company stated that they aspire to give life to an area of free Famagusta that is currently degraded and to give it a perspective for future residential and economic development.
Regarding the security of any escape of a crocodile, the company representatives stressed that in addition to the security cages and the perimeter wall that will surround the park, a total area of 30 thousand square meters, as in the case of a similar park in Montpellier, each crocodile will has an activated microchip on it. Based on this, in the electronic control center of the zoo, the location of a crocodile that may escape can be detected in a few minutes. After all, they added, the cost of raising these animals is such that the first to worry about not escaping are the owners themselves.
The park will include a covered section of 12.000 square meters and 18.000 square meters of open space. In winter, due to cold, the crocodiles will live in the sheltered place. Also, in the area there will be a restaurant, cafe, playground, souvenir shop and other infrastructure, to be suitable for a long, even day family trip.
In addition, the Nile Crocodile Zoo will be offered as a study ground for this species of crocodiles, which are considered an endangered species and are attracting interest from scholars and lovers of the species.
The profit of Achna
Access to 20 to 30 positions of technical staff in the zoo, will have priority for the residents of Achna Forest, while the company will pay on an annual basis a significant amount to the funds of the Community Council of Achna.
